Welcome to One Ounce Dental — where exceptional oral health meets a completely redefined patient experience.
We operate on a foundational truth:
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Our mission is simple:
To create dental experiences so positive that
you start looking forward to visiting the dentist.
To deliver dentistry so thoughtfully that
your teeth remain healthy for life,
requiring nothing more than regular checkups and cleanings.

At One Ounce Dental, our entire philosophy is built on two core promises.
Our job is to keep you healthy,
not to look for problems just to fill a quota.
I chose a career in dentistry to serve people in need. That’s why my journey began in the High Desert, an underserved area where many patients relied on Denti-Cal. I saw people in severe pain, desperate for root canals, with no specialists within a 30-mile radius to help them. I saw young patients with massive metal fillings that were bound to fail and require multiple replacements over their lifetimes.
It made me realize something vital was missing. Patients weren’t being given an alternative. They didn’t know that if you have the right knowledge, tools, and preventative treatments, you can maintain healthy teeth and prevent cavities for a lifetime. And if something does go wrong, you fix it right the first time.
Later, I joined a large dental corporation. I did incredibly well—so well that I was featured in the company newsletter for placing 19 indirect restorations in a single day, ranking second highest in the nation. But honestly? It didn’t make me happy.
I found my real joy when patients I had previously treated came back for their second or third checkups, and I got to tell them, “Your teeth are perfect. Zero cavities.”
But in the corporate world, that’s a problem. In some corporate cultures, if you tell a patient they are perfectly healthy, management steps in and says, “Hey Doc, you need to look closer. Find something to treat.”
That didn’t sit right with me. I invested heavily in top-tier education and took the time to deliver the highest quality work so my patients would be healthy. That health should be celebrated, not feared as “lost production”. It defeats the entire purpose of why we become dentists.
That is why I created One Ounce Dental. Call me crazy, but I believe a dental practice can thrive simply by doing what dentists are actually supposed to do: keeping your teeth healthy.
If you invest in high-quality dental work,
you shouldn’t have to worry about it failing. Period.
We believe in guaranteeing our prevention, not just our repairs. Standard dental insurance rarely covers sealants for adults, even though they are a simple, incredibly effective way to protect your teeth from decay.
With our Complete Prevention Package, we protect all the susceptible surfaces of your adult teeth. While no treatment can completely replace daily oral hygiene, we stand behind our protective work completely: if a cavity ever develops on a surface we have sealed, 200% of your original investment on that tooth will be applied as a credit toward the required treatment. This is how we perfectly align our interests with yours—we are financially incentivized to keep your teeth perfectly healthy.
I’ve noticed something strange in the traditional dental system—it rewards mediocrity. If a dental restoration fails in five years, your insurance and you pay to replace it. The system ultimately rewards frequent replacements over lasting quality.
We believe it is in your best interest to see better dental work get rewarded. We take the financial risk off your shoulders by offering clear tiers of care to fit your long-term goals:
Classic Tier: Exceptional, reliable dental work that is competitively priced with the local market.
Advanced Tier: Advanced craftsmanship that comes backed by a 10-year warranty.
The One Ounce Standard: Elite materials and maximum precision, backed by an unmatched 30-year warranty.
By backing our work with these clear guarantees, you never have to second-guess if your dental care is a worthy investment.
One Ounce Dental was founded in 2026 by Dr. Yiyang Zou, who proudly serves as the practice’s Owner Dentist. Dr. Zou has spent most of his life exploring the best of California, beginning with his high school years in the Bay Area and continuing through college at the University of California, San Diego. He later spent four years in Philadelphia earning his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania before returning to California in 2021 to settle in Los Angeles. He feels incredibly fortunate to serve the community he now calls home and appreciates the vibrant lifestyle the city offers.
Dentistry has been woven into Dr. Zou’s life from the very beginning. Raised by an oral surgeon father and a general dentist mother, he grew up around dental offices long before he could fully understand the profession. While it was exciting as a child to occasionally meet celebrities and professional athletes in waiting rooms, the experience taught him something far more meaningful — everyone deserves access to excellent dental care. That belief continues to shape his philosophy today. His favorite part of dentistry is the sense of community it creates, allowing him to build lifelong relationships with patients from all walks of life.
Early in his career, Dr. Zou worked in a demanding, high-volume environment where many patients felt overlooked. Determined to provide a different experience, he focused on mastering complex restorative procedures and molar root canals so patients could receive advanced care close to home without traveling long distances to specialists. One experience in particular reinforced that he was in the right profession: a young man arrived with severe facial swelling after enduring a week of intense pain and sleepless nights. Because Dr. Zou had trained extensively in complex root canal therapy, he was able to treat the patient immediately. Midway through the procedure, the patient actually fell asleep in the chair from sheer relief. Moments like that continue to remind Dr. Zou that his greatest strength lies not only in his clinical skill, but in his ability to help patients feel comfortable, cared for, and genuinely at ease.
Dr. Zou is an active member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and Tri-County Dental Society. He is passionate about continuing education, advanced clinical care, and helping patients achieve healthier, more confident smiles.
Outside of the office, Dr. Zou is equally passionate about health and wellness. Over the past year, he has transformed his own lifestyle by losing 56 pounds through science-based fitness training and now works out four times a week. He enjoys encouraging others who are pursuing healthier habits and lifestyle changes of their own.
Dr. Zou is also a lifelong gamer with a deep appreciation for gaming culture. From playing Pokémon Gen 1 on the original GameBoy to spending years immersed in games like League of Legends, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft, gaming has remained one of his favorite hobbies. With nearly 300 games in his Steam library, he’s always happy to connect with fellow gamers while helping patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their visits.
