I chose a career in dentistry to serve people in need. That’s why my journey began in the High Desert, an underserved area where many patients relied on Denti-Cal. It made me realize something vital was missing. Patients weren’t being given an alternative. Later, I joined a large dental corporation. I did incredibly well—so well that I was featured in the company newsletter for placing 19 indirect restorations in a single day, ranking second highest in the nation. But honestly? It didn’t make me happy.

I found my real joy when patients I had previously treated came back for their second or third checkups, and I got to tell them, “Your teeth are perfect. Zero cavities.”

But in the corporate world, that’s a problem. In some corporate cultures, if you tell a patient they are perfectly healthy, management steps in and says, “Hey Doc, you need to look closer. Find something to treat.”

That didn’t sit right with me. I invested heavily in top-tier education and took the time to deliver the highest quality work so my patients would be healthy. That health should be celebrated, not feared as “lost production”. It defeats the entire purpose of why we become dentists.
