About Fluoride Treatment

Enamel constantly loses and regains minerals. Decay begins when that balance tips the wrong way for long enough. A professional fluoride application supports remineralization, and whether it is recommended depends on your individual risk.

What fluoride can and cannot do

Fluoride strengthens enamel against acid and may help remineralize a very early white-spot lesion before it becomes a cavity. It cannot repair a surface that has already broken down; once a cavity has formed, the tooth needs a restoration.

Who may benefit

Fluoride is not recommended for everyone at every visit. It is considered when examination findings and history suggest a raised risk of decay.

  • Children and teenagers with newly erupted teeth
  • Anyone with a recent history of cavities
  • Patients with dry mouth from medication or medical treatment
  • People wearing braces or aligners, where cleaning is harder
  • Patients with exposed root surfaces from gum recession

What the application involves

The application itself takes only a few minutes. Our team will explain how long to wait before eating or drinking afterwards so the treatment has time to work.
