About Clear Aligners

Clear aligners cover more than one system. Invisalign is one option; other clear aligner brands use their own tray materials and planning process and may suit certain cases differently. Dr. Zou evaluates your teeth, bite, oral health, goals, and ability to wear the trays consistently before discussing which system, if any, fits your case.

Choosing a clear aligner system

A consultation helps us understand the tooth movement you are seeking and which clear aligner system, including Invisalign, is an appropriate approach for your case. We review your teeth, bite, oral health, and goals before recommending a personalized treatment plan.

An individual treatment plan

Records of your teeth and bite guide a planned sequence of movements. The recommended records and planning method depend on the case. Dr. Zou explains the proposed movements, limitations, expected monitoring, and alternatives before treatment begins.

  • An evaluation of the teeth, gums, and bite
  • A customized series of clear aligners
  • A review of goals, limits, and alternatives
  • Progress checks during treatment

Living with removable aligners

Because the aligners are removable, you can take them out for meals and complete your normal brushing and flossing routine. Consistent wear is important for the planned movement, so we provide clear instructions for how and when to use each set.

Maintaining your new alignment

Treatment length depends on the movements in your plan and how consistently the aligners are worn. Once active treatment is complete, retainers are generally used to help preserve the new tooth positions. We will explain your individualized retention plan.
